On Tuesday 15th September 2015, the Fleshers Incorporation hosted a business tea, with around 70 Members of the seven Trades and their guests.

Following an enjoyable meal, Guests enjoyed a talk by Mr Brian Pack OBE, who gave an interesting insight into todays UK meat industry.

Mr Pack. who was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 1999 for services to agriculture, food and marketing, is an independent member of the Rural Affairs Food & Environment Delivery Board chaired by Cabinet Secretary, Richard Lochhead. This Board was established in response to a recommendation in Brian’s final report on reducing red tape and bureaucracy for farmers and land managers. The Board will monitor the progress made in implementing Brian’s 61 recommendations – 59 of which were accepted.
Brian has previously chaired an inquiry into future support for agriculture in Scotland. Its final report helped advise Scotland’s position on CAP Reform and has been involved in the follow up discussions.
He is Chairman of the Rowett Research Institute and a member of Court and a Director of Aberdeen University where he chairs the Operating Board.
He is founder Chairman of the Taste of Grampian, a one day food festival, retiring in 2014.
Previously, he was Chief Executive of ANM Group Ltd and, before that, Managing Director of Mackies of Scotland. He has had a lifetime involvement in agriculture, having started his career as an agricultural economist at the |North of Scotland College of Agriculture (forerunner of SAC).
Brian is a fellow of the Royal Agricultural Society and an honorary member of the Institute of Auctioneers and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society.
