Honouring the Ex Factors of the Seven Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen

A special evening was held at Trinity Hall to formally recognise the dedicated individuals who have served as Factors across both the Trades Widows and Beneficiaries Fund and the Trades Widows Supplementary Fund. From 1986 through to the present day, these office bearers collectively represent 50 years of continuous service to the Funds.

The night began with a warm welcome from the Deacon Convener, followed by grace from the Deacon of the Hammermen. After the meal, guests gathered to acknowledge the significance of the Factor role – one of the longest serving and most committed positions within the organisation.

Those recognised on the evening included:

Trades Widows & Beneficiaries Fund
• Edwin Shaw – Tailors (2006–2013)
• Brian Donald – Shoemakers (2014–2019)
• Craig Matheson – Fleshers (2019–2026)
• Absent – George Petrie – Wrights & Coopers (1986–1990)
• Current Factor: Neil Armour – Weavers (2026–Present)

Trades Widows Supplementary Fund
• Clive Sangster – Bakers (2000–2010)
• Frank Cook – Hammermen (2010–2016/17)
• Duncan Love – Bakers (2017–2024)
• Absent – Graeme Duncan – Hammermen (2024–Present)

A highlight of the evening was the introduction of the new Ex Factor Medal, designed by Miss Anna Keith – her third project for the organisation. Deacon Parkinson spoke on her behalf before the presentation began.

Each medal was presented as a lifetime token of appreciation.

The Deacon Convener offered sincere thanks on behalf of the Contributors and Widows, followed by a toast to the Ex‑Factors to close the evening.

A memorable night of gratitude, tradition, and respect for those who have given so much to the Funds and to the wider family of the Seven Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen.
