• 1833 – Born at Aberdeen, 4th March.  Second son of Robert Thomson, merchant, Aberdeen, and Barbara Stevenson, his wife.
• Educated at Grammar School, Aberdeen
• 1847-49 – Alumnus, Marischal College.
• Apprenticed first, to Francis Gordon (1796), second, to John Dunn (1839), and, thirdly, to William Adam and Alexander Anderson (Adam & Anderson).
• Sometime partner in the said firm of Adam & Anderson, and subsequently of Adam, Thomson & Ross.
• 1868 – Joint Clerk and Assessor to the Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen.
• Member of General Council, University of Aberdeen.
• 1858 – Married, at Aberdeen, 6th July,  Jane (died at Aberdeen, 7th November, 1903, aged 70)
• 1901 – Died at Aberdeen, 19th January.
